 Audi ECU Clamp Removal
Could anyone please suggest the best way to remove the clamp fitted to new Audi ECU's? The clamp which is secured by four 'security' srews prevents removal of the connectors.

Drill out the 'security' screws and then replace with normal headed screws.
Ooor, clone the 'tool'
Ooor, weld a bolt onto the tip of the screws and then remove using normal tool.
Have any pics, quite intrigued to see how they attach them. Is it some kind of new fangled star pattern with a hexagon shape in the middle?

Thanks for reply.
I'm a little nervous about welding near the ECU and, due to position, it will be difficult to drill them out............ This must be what the dealers do in the event of a faulty unit though?
There's no pattern of any kind, just a fairly smooth dome forming the screw head (looks a bit like an old style rivet top).
When assembled, an additional part of the head must shear off at a certain torque.
I wonder if all new Audi's are fitted with these clamps, I've never seen or heard of them before?

They look like a bolt, but than afterwards the head is been removed. I always use a cutting disc to remove the clamp.
Sometimes I drill the bolt out, but that a very annoying job!!!
They put these clamps on there to see if the ecu has been removed (warranty issues).

They put these clamps on all new VW (golfV) and audi's (like the new tt). These things are sometimes a real pain in the ass when you want to remove a ecu!
But with some cars it's possible to keep the clamp on there, and then you can open the ecu on the car and flash it there with BDM (with new audi tt for example). But most of the cars it's not possible to open ecu with the clamp on there.
I always recomend removing the clamp, because flashing it on the car gives sometimes weird situations  .

First of all disconnect batterie!!! loosen all the bolts. Then there still is the silicon glue  . You must try to remove the top nice and easy. It takes some time, just use your healthy mind and you'll figure it out. I'm sure there is a topic on the forum about removal of the top of the ecu...
But don't forget to disconnect the batteria, because when you're trying to open up the ecu, there is a change that you touche the PCB with your wrench or wathever you're using, and when this hapens when there is current ==>  ....

Just heat the rests of the bolts with hot air, then unscrew with pliers.
No problem.

With the audi you can do that. But with a golfV not, because you can't get a grip on the rests of the bolts.
I tried it once with hotair, you really see the glue melting, but still it's not the easiest thing to do.
But this way is the biggest change on keeping your warranty (patience gets rewarded)!!!
